Wireless Router Settings Manual

To connect all home appliances to the Internet (computer, laptop, telephone, etc.), you need to configure the router accordingly. To configure the router, you need to go to its settings (as a rule, the IP address is 192.168.1.1 — this is the address of the router settings (hence the name of the article :-D)).

But very often the chain of plans built above breaks into a banal one - it’s impossible to enter the settings of this same router. In the browser, usually, an error appears, like "Can not access the site, timed out waiting for an answer ..." (as in Figure 1 below).

We will try to deal with this scourge and enter the settings of the router (note: another name of the router). And so, let's start ...

 Quick Setup Guide : 192.168.1.1 Admin Login [ Connect to the Router ]

The reasons why it is impossible to go to 192.168.1.1

1) Is the router connected to a computer / laptop

The first thing I recommend to check for such a problem is to check if the router is turned on, whether the network cable from the Internet and the computer are connected to it, whether the power supply is on!

By the way, whether the LEDs on it blink, whether it is possible to understand everything works: pay attention to fig. 2 - all three LEDs on it are on, indicating the presence of a connection.

Important! It is highly desirable to do the initial setup of the router by connecting to it via a network cable (even if you plan to work on a laptop via Wi-Fi).

Router - Rear View

Fig. 2. Sample router - rear view

Another important point: when connecting the network cable from the router, the network icon should light up on the computer (most likely it will have an exclamation mark "Without Internet access", because the Internet is not yet configured. See Fig. 3).

It is possible that you will have a message that "... no connections are available" - in this case, go to the next part of the article.

Fig. 3. Without Internet access / Windows 7

If you double-checked the cables, the connection and power of the router, and you still do not go into the settings of the router, go ahead ...

2) Is the network card turned on?

The appearing icon with a cross sign indicating that “There are no connections available” in the tray near the clock may signal not only that there is a problem with the network cable (or you did not insert it), but also that the network card is off (in general, it happens rarely, but still ...)!

No connections available

Fig. 4. No connections available.

How to enable the network card

  1. Press the combination of buttons Win + R, enter ncpa.cpl in the "Open" line, click OK (the method is suitable for Windows 7, 8, 10);
  2. In the window that opens, pay attention to the Ethernet adapter (he is responsible for connecting via the network cable). If you right-click on it, you can turn it on / off. Turn it on: when it is on, the icon becomes colored (and not black); How to change your Wi-Fi password
  3. If you have a network cable connected and the network card has turned on (there are no problems), you will see that the icon has become colored and there are no red crosses on it (see Fig. 5: green arrow-3 — everything is good with the connection; red arrow-4 - cable is not connected: this happens when there are problems with the cable, or the network card itself).

3) Check the IP address of the router settings

No matter how it may sound, but in trying to log in at 192.168.1.1 (which is in most cases the address to enter the settings of the router), you may be missing the point! On some models of routers, the address, by default, for settings is different from this ...

Such information, most often, can be found directly on the device case (usually there is a sticker on the back of the case). For example, in fig. 6 shows a D-link router with a 192.168.0.1 login address!

Be careful, because of this one digit, you can spend the whole evening in front of the monitor: oops: ... How to set up a router

By the way, please note that in addition to the address, the password and login for access is also indicated.

TP-Link router - sticker on the case

Note! Similar information about the address of the settings page of the router is always indicated in the documents that came with it. Moreover, the manual also indicates the password and login for access (as a rule, they coincide: admin / admin).

4) Reset router settings

It may be that the factory settings of the router (note: those shown on the label, or reflected in the documents to the device) could have been changed by someone (for example, by the sellers in the store: roll :). In this case, a good option would be to reset the settings.

To reset the settings on all typical routers on the back of the case, next to the network ports, there is a small reset button (usually, it is marked as Reset). This button must be clamped for 5-10 seconds (usually use a pencil or pen).

After the settings are reset, try logging in again at 192.168.1.1.

5) Is the automatic retrieval of IP and DNS

Quite often, the reason for the inability to enter the settings of the router lies in the specified network connection settings (for example, they often remain for old equipment).

To check and change these parameters, you must:

  • click Win + R, enter the command ncpa.cpl in the "Run / Open" line, click OK;
  • then you will see a window with all network connections (by the way, it can be opened via the Windows control panel). In this window, find the local area connection (or it may be called Ethernet, as I have in Figure 9 below); router security settings you need to check now
  • go to the properties of this connection.
Local Connection Properties (Ethernet)

Fig. 9. Local Connection Properties (Ethernet)

Next in the list of components, find the line "IP version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" and go to its properties (arrows 1 and 2 in Figure 10 below). Then set in the settings:

  1. Receive an IP address automatically;
  2. Get the address of the DNS server automatically.

Save the settings and restart the computer. Then try entering the router settings again.

6) Possible problem with hosts file

There is such a file in Windows, by changing which, you can redirect the browser to a completely different address - i.e. You will try to go to 192.168.1.1, and in fact you will be redirected to a completely different page (perhaps the one that does not even exist).

Usually, viruses change the page from the social. networks, and lured the user paid SMS-ki ... In any case, if there is a problem with the entrance to the settings of the router - I recommend to restore the hosts file.

How to repair hosts file

(I'll tell you the simplest option that will help even on a computer that is “swirled out”, in cases when there are “double” hosts files to confuse the user, and even in cases when the file is blocked by extraneous processes)

  1. Download AVZ anti-virus utility
  2. Then run it, click File / System Restore;
  3. Next in the list tick "Cleaning the hosts file". Then click the button "Perform marked operations" (see fig. 11).
AVZ - recover file hosts

7) Check the browser settings (as well as plug-ins, turbo mode, etc.)

Some browser settings (as well as its plug-ins) can significantly affect the course of settings. For example, turbo modes, which are aimed at speeding up the browser, will not let you enter the settings of the router!

Such modes exist in many browsers: for example, in Opera or Yandex-browser, in order to disable them, just open the settings menu (see Figure 12).

Opera and Yandex browser - turbo mode

Fig. 12. Opera and Yandex browser - turbo mode

In general, I recommend trying to access 192.168.1.1 in several browsers (you can even use the good old Internet Explorer, so that it does not have turbo modes, and the manufacturers of routers "sharpen" the pages of their settings for it ... ;-)) .

8) Is the firewall enabled?

A firewall is a special program that protects you when you are working on a network (it blocks access to ports for unwanted applications).

Even if you didn’t install or block anything, a Windows firewall could do this for you (sometimes it happens, sometimes its work leaves much to be desired: evil :).

At the time of setup, I recommend to turn it off and check whether you can enter the parameters of the router.

How to disable the firewall in Windows

  1. Press the WIN + R buttons, enter the firewall.cpl command and press Enter (this is faster than through the control panel ;-));
  2. Then in the left column, find and follow the link "Enable or Disable the Firewall in Windows" (see Fig. 13).

Fig. 13. How to disable the firewall in Windows

Then simply move the sliders to "Disable Windows Firewall" for private and public networks (if you have more networks, disable them for everyone ...).

Configure Firewall Settings

After saving the changed parameters and try again enter the settings of the router.

Configure Router Settings

What is 192.168.1.1

The provided numbers are a network address or ip to enter the settings menu of your device, to get to it you need to use a browser. The ip data is set by default on most models from various network router companies.

How to enter the settings of the 192.168.1.1 router (Wi-Fi)

Numbers are entered into the address bar of any browser, then a window pops up in which you need to enter your login and password. By default, the password and login password change is the word "admin", after successful input you will see the web menu interface. You can also enter 19216811 using “admin” from another device that has a Wi-Fi receiver. Since, by default, it does not have protection installed, all that needs gateway ip address to be done is to connect to the network, and already through the browser on the device enter all of the above.

What to do if 192.168.1.1 does not open (unavailable)?

- The problem with the browser
One of the possible errors may be a problem with the browser, if the device detects a connected router. You need to install another browser and repeat the menu entry. If this does not help, you should check your browser for viruses and unwanted extensions.

- The problem with the antivirus / firewall
Next error blocking the network address by the antivirus. It is gateway address solved by disabling the firewall (protector from unwanted network traffic) for a while, or by entering the network address in the list of safe sites. Standard Windows Firewall is disabled as follows: Control Panel - System and Security - Firewall - Disable windows defender. It is worth noting that this error is very rare.

- Problem with wire contacts or wi-fi network.
If it is not detected when connected to your PC via a standard cable, you should carefully check all the connections and connection indicators on it. It is also necessary to check the correctness of the Ethernet cable connection, perhaps default gateway input was simply confused. The cable must be plugged into the socket, which is located separately from the others and is highlighted in blue. If you are connected using a Wi-Fi receiver, you should check its health, as well as the presence of drivers for its operation.

- The problem with the network card
Such a problem often occurs after installing a new operating system. In order to fix it, you will need to install the driver package, which usually comes bundled with the system unit. It is also important to check the internet protocols used. To do this, you need to enter the network settings, click on “LAN connections”, then properties, and already here check the checkboxes next to version 6 (TCP / IPv6) and 4 protocols (TCP / IPv4). All other malfunctions of the network card are most likely associated with a breakdown or incorrect connection. Ultimately, this may be a malfunction of the device itself, in which it is necessary to contact the service center.

How to find out the login and password to log in 192.168.1.1?

As mentioned above, the standard password and login page is the word "admin" for 10.0.0.1 Admin Password. Sometimes it can be a combination of words, where the login admin, and the password is password. Most manufacturers indicate on the reverse side: the network address, menu access data, which are set by default.

What to do if the standard login/password (admin admin) does not fit

It is necessary to check the layout and correctness of data entry, then try to change the browser or device through which the input is made. If all these actions do not help, then it is necessary to reset the settings to the standard ones. There is a hole in the back of the device that needs to be clamped for 10 seconds or more with something thin (paper clips or needles). After that, everything will return to the factory settings and you can enter the menu.

How to set or change the password 192.168.1.1

So, after successfully entering the menu, you need to find the section Wireless-security (wireless mode - protection), here you need to choose WPA2-Personal security and set the password that suits you, saving changes.

What needs to be done in 192.168.1.1 to configure the Internet?

In the web interface, you must select the network-wan section, then fill in the fields in this section as follows:

  • The type of connection in most cases must be left by default, or set the settings of your country.
  • In the column user name and password enter data from your contract with the provider.

In the “Wireless Mode” section you can set the name of your network, set security, find out the number of users currently connected. Many of the items that are automatically regulated can be left as default. Most routers have a quick setup - this means that all the parameters that need to be configured will pop up in a special window, you just have to fill them in. You can also use the help of a specialist who will install and configure as soon as possible.
